Emma Essential Mattress Review

This Emma Essential mattress review examines Emma’s latest offering. The Emma Essential Mattress is a variation of the 2019 award-winning Emma Original mattress. Emma Sleep was founded in 2013 and has revolutionised sleep all over the world. Made in the UK, this mattress undergoes strict testing to ensure that all products pass international standards, ensuring only the best reaches your doorstep.

Materials & Construction

The Emma Essential mattress is constructed to prioritise comfort, support, and breathability — three critical elements to a better and longer sleep.

  • A top layer of open-pored foam is added to facilitate airflow throughout the bed. Moreover, it is designed to wick away any moisture and resist any heat to keep you fresh throughout the night.
  • A bottom layer of durable, supportive HRX foam is there to provide the right amount of support for your spine and limbs. This layer promotes proper spine alignment, redistributes weight, and relieves pressure build-up in the joints.
  •  Cutouts have been cleverly added to the bottom foam layer to provide customised support for the different parts of your body. They have been cleverly placed to target specific parts of the body, such as the neck, hips, and knees.

Cover

The cover of this mattress is divided into two parts: the top and the bottom. The top cover is made from 100% polyester and is fully removable. You can throw it in the wash at 40 degrees for low-effort maintenance.

Polyester is a synthetic material that provides excellent durability. This makes the cover serve as a protector for your beloved mattress, guarding it against any wear and tears.

The top cover works in unison with the upper foam layer to promote breathability throughout the bed. It is also designed to prevent overheating, which makes the surface more comfortable to sleep on.

The bottom cover is also washable and is made from 89% polyester and 11% polypropylene. It is built to include a non-slip base that grips onto the base to secure your bed adequately.

Comfort & Support

With its cushiony, cushy foam layers, the Emma Essential bed provides comfort and support without sacrificing restful rest.

In the morning, you will feel refreshed and like you’re starting fresh again. The groves in the mattress are ergonomically placed, providing you with reflexive support to relieve your joints’ pressure.

This prevents any tension from causing pain in your joints. The back support zone is rated 6.5 on the firmness scale, which is medium-firm.

Although this firmness is suitable for all types of sleepers and promotes proper spine alignment, most sleepers agree that it is best for back sleepers because it promotes proper spine-to-head alignment and relieves neck pain.

Furthermore, the mattress comes with a breathable top layer of foam which combines well with the mattresses light cover.

Because it’s more budget friendly, you might get lumps and dipping, which removes the structure that gives support. While there is a 5-year warranty, this is still a risk you should be aware of when purchasing.

Lastly, the bed is also relatively thin compared to other mattresses. If you’re quite particular about the substantiality and thickness, this might be a minor put-off.

Trial Period & Guarantee

  • It also comes with a 5-year guarantee period which covers faulty manufacturing. It does not cover the regular wear and tear that comes with regular use.

Emma essential vs Emma original

The main difference is that the essential is the budget-friendly options so it doesn’t have as many bells and whistles. It’s still an excellent mattress in the price range but lit only has two layers of foam compared to the original three-layer construction.

You also don’t have as many guarantees. The original has a 10-year warranty and a 200 night trial period. The essentials have a 5-year warranty and no trial period.

If the essential is for a guest room or children I would say it’s perfect. But for the main bedroom, It’s worth the extra money check out our Emma original review to help decide.

Verdict

In addition to the pressure relief features, the foam layer is explicitly designed to distribute weight evenly so that you will get back to sleep feeling refreshed.

If the mattress begins to deflate after several months of use, there is always a 5-year guarantee period that may cover that. The comfort and quality are worth the risk if you’re willing to take it, but you still get tremendous value with this mattress.
