Why Does My Pillow Hurt My Ear?

This is a great question to ask and one that I’d never discussed at any length.

Ear pain when you wake in the morning is a mystery but very real to thousands if not millions of side sleepers.

Even worse than waking in the morning with ear pain is being woken through the night with the excruciating pain of the outer ear.

Let’s qualify ear pain. If you have inner ear pain, discharge from the ear, impaired hearing or general or sharp pain in the inner ear, you most likely have an ear infection. You should see your GP as soon as possible for antibiotics or other medication to resolve the infection.

I am talking about the outer ear, the part full of cartilage and forms what we all know as the outer ear. Some are big, and some are small. The outer ear helps with directing sound waves into the inner ear. I’m sure it has many other uses also.

What Causes Outer Ear Pain When Sleeping?

I can only speak from my case. I guess I have normal to slightly large ears, and I often wake in the night or the morning with outer ear pain.

I can only assume that when I sleep heavily, my ear sometimes folds. This is a common phenomenon, and visiting your doctor might generate a rye smile at best and the offer of a useless solution to the problem.

The outer ear is painful in only a way I can describe as a feeling of being punched hard in the ear.

How To resolve The Issue of Outer Ear Pain

In 99.9% of all cases, the issue of outer ear pain when weakening is, of course, to do with the pillow.

Older hard compressed pillows seem to be the main culprit when it comes to outer ear pain. With the loss of softness and flexibility, the pillow has almost become solid. Yes, you can plump it to make it look more full, but the compressed material compacts as soon as you rest your head, and you are back to square one.

The simple resolution to prevent painful and sore ears through the night is to replace the pillow. Pillow design and technology has come leaps and bounds over the past years, and a new quality pillow will do more than resolve ear pain.

A quality pillow will enable a restful night’s sleep in complete comfort. Gone are the days of plumping pillows to make them soft.

Memory foam pillows keep their shape and return to the original posture time and time again for years.

Memory foam pillows can be contoured to add neck support and while offering sublime comfort to the user.

Replacing a worn old pillow is the key to reducing the phenomena of ear pain while sleeping, with the additional benefits of enhanced sleeping regardless of what position you prefer for sleeping. The memory foam pillow is an ideal choice for the best night’s sleep.
